The Governing Board of Steamboat Montessori (“The Board”) is responsible for the overall policy and direction of the school. Different from a working board, our all-volunteer governing board is not involved in the day-to-day operation of the school; this critical role is delegated by the Board to its sole employee, the Head of School.
Priority for prospective board members is given to those who represent community interest, or who have unique acumen in business, governance, law or education. Board appointments are made annually in June by a vote of the board, and terms last 3 years. The Board also oversees several committees; these groups meet regularly, and always welcome interested participants to join. Committee meetings, as well as board meetings, are open to the public. The average Board Member time commitment ranges from 5-10 hours per month.
The Board is committed to attracting and electing a diverse and highly competent membership. We believe that a diverse board, with members representing a variety of backgrounds and experiences, is essential to effective governance and decision-making to best suit the long-term viability and success of the school. Accordingly, the Board seeks and encourages applications from all qualified individuals regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, disability status, or any other protected characteristic.
We are particularly interested in individuals who possess:
- A strong commitment to public education and a passion for the mission and vision of Steamboat Montessori.
- Demonstrated experience in leadership, governance, and/or relevant professional fields (e.g., education, finance, law, business, etc.).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A collaborative and team-oriented approach.
- A commitment to upholding the highest ethical and fiduciary standards.
The Board will consider all applications submitted by qualified individuals, and may request additional information or conduct interviews to further assess candidates’ qualifications and suitability for board service.
To apply, please submit the following documents by email to the Board Chair:
