Why Fundraise?
Steamboat Montessori is a public charter school that receives funding from federal and state sources, similar to that of a traditional public school. However, Steamboat Montessori is not part of the Steamboat Springs School District (SSSD). We are authorized by the Colorado Charter School Institute (CSI), and our students are not able to access local educational tax dollars in the same way that in-district students can. It is estimated that Steamboat Montessori receives about 75 cents to spend for every dollar an in-district student receives. Further, Steamboat Montessori funds its own real-estate costs out of its operating budget, unlike most schools. These factors present an annual funding gap; with the help of parents and members of the community, this funding gap is closed each year through a combination of fundraising, private donations, and grants. Fundraising is a critical component of our operational model.
The Annual Fund:
The Annual Fund is the name given to the annual giving campaign comprising donations from parents, and from the Steamboat Montessori board of directors. The Annual Fund is critical to fund the ongoing success of the school.
The Duel:
The Duel is our signature community fundraising event. Since 2016, this exciting evening features the dueling piano act, delicious food and drink, and a live and silent auction. Funds raised from The Duel go to support critical school operations, and have included installation of play structures, purchasing of manipulative materials for the classrooms, and incentivizing teacher performance and development.
